What is it?
Utah WERKS is a consortium of six colleges and universities in Utah which have received funding from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grants program. The purpose of the grant is to expand and improve our ability to deliver education and career training programs that can be completed in two years or less for workers who have lost their jobs or are threatened with

Computer Forensics

Learn skills in digital forensics to analyze computers and cell phones used in crimes and help put bad guys behind bars. If you’re a little bit Sherlock Holmes and a little bit Bill Gates, check out a career in computer forensics.


A trio of digital forensic basics are scheduled to be taught online.


  • CJ 1900 - Introduction to Computer Related Crime

    Skills-based course introduciong computer crime through an overview of the crimal acts that can be committed using a computer or the Internet, and how those acts can be successfully investigated. Also includes the legal aspects of search and seizure, proper procedures for handling digital evidence in relation to the rules of evidence, and the use of basic imaging equipment.


  • CJ 2700 - Introduction to Digital Forensics

    Skills-based course introduciong the digital forensics process, including evidence processing, pres- ervation, analysis, and presentation. Also includes digital evidence basics, data recovery, and some cyber law issues.


  • CJ 4750 - Small Device Forensics

    Skills-based course exploring the digital forensics examination of various small scale digital de- vices such as personal digital assistants, cell phones, GPS devices, and MP3 players. Focuces on specific search and seizure issues with these devices, how forensic challenges differ from those present with personal computures, and the technical issues commonly encountered during examination.
