In addition to the general DSU admission procedure, for students to be admitted in the COC program it is required to meet with the DSU criminal justice advisor assuring they understand and are committed to the COC course of study.
The Certificate of Completion in Computer Forensics provides you the knowledge and skills needed to conduct a forensic examination of digital evidence in compliance with the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice, Special Report, "Forensic Examination of Digital Evidence: A Guide for Law Enforcement." The program combines both technical and practical training that will prepare students to assist law enforcement agencies and prosecutorial offices from the crime scene through analysis and into the courtroom. The general criminal justice courses provide you with a basic understanding concerning the rules of evidence, investigative techniques, and criminal procedures. Through the required core courses this knowledge is then applied specifically to the various areas of digital forensics and cyber investigation. The proposed COC in Computer Forensics will utilize courses currently being taught at DSU, through the Integrated Studies Program-Criminal Justice emphasis, and new core courses that will be taught by the Dixie State University Computer Crime Institute (DSU-CCI). The Computer Crime Institute is located on the campus of DSU and has a dual purpose of training students in the field of digital forensics and supporting law enforcement through the operation and maintenance of a computer forensics lab.
